Sphagnum moss has always been used as an irreplaceable substrate for valuable orchids, bromeliads, carnivores and other plants. The moisture-preserving properties of sphagnum are also valued in terrarium animal husbandry for keeping dendrobates and other amphibians, snakes, turtles and tarantulas, as well as for their safe transport.
Sphagnum is also ideal for removing moss and rooting cuttings, stratifying and pre-germinating seeds, or as a decorative material. All in all, it is the moisture-retaining, strong antifungal and antibacterial effect as well as the low pH value that make sphagnum a versatile material with outstanding properties.
Our sphagnum comes from the rainy south of Chile, where it is mown by hand and dried in the wind. Chilean sphagnum moss is a real natural product that grows back in 6 to 8 years and can be mown again without draining the moors.
