Philodendron sellowianum, Kunth 1841
etymology: imbe = Imbé is a municipality on the coast of Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil, 120 km east of Porto Alegre.
Reproduction: Division
Origin: Brazil
Location: hemiepiphytic in the tropical rain or mountain forest with humid coastal climate of Brazil.
Notes: The botanically correct name of Philodendron 'Jose Buono' is Philodendron imbe var. ilsemanii 'Jose Buono'. At some point, for commercial reasons, this species with the variegated leaves was only traded as Philodendron Jose Buono.
Like some other species in this genus, Philodendron imbe can heat up the spadix during flowering to produce more fragrance. This not only attracts more insects, but also makes them much more active, which greatly increases the likelihood of pollination.
