Product information "Sowing & nutrient medium GD-D"

  • These culture media are products of the highest quality that are constantly being improved. They have been and are regularly tested in practice, including at universities and colleges. After production, the culture media is subject to strict quality control.
  • For the experienced user, the use of ready-made culture media means valuable time savings and cost-effective work. Beginners are spared unnecessary sources of error.
  • The accuracy of a kitchen scale is sufficient to weigh even small quantities
  • Additions of natural substances or active ingredients are possible without restrictions

Instructions for use

The required amount of powdered dry product is weighed. If there are lumps, they are crushed with a mortar or with the fingers. The prescribed amount of substrate is slowly sprinkled into 1 liter (half the dose for 0.5 liters, etc.) of distilled or demineralized, boiling water and dissolved. Continue stirring and heating until everything has dissolved: the solution is then clear to translucent. The pH value does not need to be adjusted; depending on the substrate, it is between 5.0 and 5.5.

Additional natural substance additives or active ingredient additives are generally not necessary, but can be added. When using birch sap additives to the nutrient medium, no pH correction is required. However, some natural substance additives, such as unsweetened pineapple juice, make pH correction necessary.

If insoluble or poorly soluble components (sediment) occur in the culture medium - e.g. when banana puree is added - then the undissolved portion must be evenly distributed among all culture tubes.

In practice, the following media have proven to be particularly suitable for transplanting the germinated seeds, whereby the protocorms should be about 1 mm in size:

  • GD culture medium D incl. 25% birch sap or 5-10% pineapple juice.
  • SBL culture medium A including a homogenate (food processor) made from 100ml of fresh pineapple juice with 40g of solid banana pulp per liter of culture medium.
  • SBL culture medium A and C including 10% fresh pineapple juice.

If pineapple is added, the pH value must be adjusted to pH 5.1 using ammonia drop by drop*. It has been shown that freshly prepared natural product-nutrient medium combinations are preferable to similarly prepared canned products. Birch sap, pineapple juice and pineapple-banana homogenate have a very long shelf life when stored in the freezer (1-2 years).
