etymology: delannayi = The species was named in honor of Xavier Delannay (b. 1952? in Belgium), a research assistant at the Missouri Botanical Garden and co-author of the original description. Xavier was responsible for the "discovery" of this species, noting that it was different from Anthurium recavum Croat, which was described at the same time. An excellent botanist, he became an expert in molecular genetics at Monsanto, now retired, Xavier helps senior author Tom Croat with research on neotropical Araceae.

Remarks:
Anthurium delannayi is not a synonym for Anthurium recavum, but can easily be confused with this species. Anthurium delannayi grows much warmer than Anthurium recavum, the spadix is white instead of pink or reddish.
