etymology: sodiroi = Luis Sodiro was a Jesuit priest and a field botanist who described a large number of species from the area around Quito, Ecuador in the early 20th century. He was perhaps the first to collect in this region, and he described at least 38 species from Esmeraldas, a region in Ecuador.
Reproduction: Division
Origin: not clear
Location: No information available
Remarks: Philodendron sodiroi is a botanically obscure species. In some sources, Nicholas Edward Brown (1849 - 1934, English botanist and taxonomist) is named as the author, who is said to have published the species on April 8, 1948, 14 years after Brown's death, but no source is given. In the International Plant Names Index, the name is referred to as hort:, i.e. as a horticultural variety ( Gard. Chron. ns, 19: 510 (1883).
Strictly speaking, this species is not described.
