Location:
Usually hemiepiphytic, rarely terrestrial or epiphytic. Only reported from the Choco region of Colombia at altitudes of 500-1000 m.
Remarks:
This species is one of many taxonomic problems in naming that have not yet been fully resolved. This species was discovered many years ago and was offered by Ecuagenera as Philodendron verrucosum 'No.5.' due to its similarity to Philodendron verrucosum.
Due to its beautiful red coloring, it quickly became popular among collectors in the USA and was traded as Philodendron Choco Red based on its coloring and region of origin.
New investigations, which were only possible after prolonged cultivation of the plants and diagnosis of the flower structure, have led to Philodendron verrucosum 'No. 5' now being treated as a separate species, and it is currently described as Philodendron rubrijuvenilum (possibly also rubrojuvenilum) (as of Nov. 2021).
