Product information "Moss Mix 50g"

General information and instructions for Epiweb Moss Mix:
Mix the dried moss mixture with water to a yoghurt-like consistency. Please let the mixture stand overnight before using. Apply the moss mixture with a brush. Smooth the moss layer with a wet brush. The moss layer should be between 1-3 mm thick. After a few months it may be necessary to add additional moss in places where water drips etc. This is applied by hand or with a brush.
The mosses contained in the moss mixture are tropical species and are favored by nutrient-poor water with a pH value between 5.7 and 7.0. The second part of the moss mixture consists of sphagnum moss and serves to give the tropical moss a favorable substrate for settlement and for its water-storing and antiseptic properties. Rainwater or osmosis water is preferred.

Miscellaneous
Sometimes you can see a whitish layer forming. This is a penicillin-like mold that is completely harmless to both plants and animals. It usually disappears after a few weeks as the moss takes over. After a few weeks, a greenish layer usually forms in the wettest and brightest areas. This should not be confused with green algae and is a natural step that forms when the mosses go through what is known as the protonemal phase. New moss plants are formed from this algae-like layer.
Mosses need good access to daylight-like light (5000-6500 Kelvin) to grow optimally. The minimum light requirement is around 650 FC (foot candles), which corresponds to around 7000 lux/m²
For comparison: a 36 W fluorescent lamp delivers a maximum of 1200 lux.

Mosses are slow growing, so you can't expect to have complete coverage in a few months.

It is important to keep an eye on the nutrient content of the water. Regular water changes are necessary to prevent accumulation of nutrients, etc. We recommend changing the water completely every two weeks.
Watch out for the fungus gnat (Sciara thomae). Its larvae live in moist substrates and can destroy a moss colony if the infestation is severe. The easiest way to avoid this is to plant a carnivorous plant if possible. In the event of an acute infestation, nematodes are used against the flies.

Important! Any remaining soaked moss must be dried for storage.
