Remarks:
On July 6, 1801, Humboldt and Bonpland reached Bogota, Colombia. There they met José Mutis, probably the most important botanist in South America. The extensive botanical collection and the magnificent library, as well as Mutis' botanical books and sketches (and drawings), strengthened Humboldt's research urge to take a closer look at plants on this journey. As a direct result of this acquaintance, Humboldt and Bonpland penetrated deep into the Andes, which had hardly been explored until then.
One of the countless plants discovered on this trip was Anthurium pedatum. Unfortunately, the exact location was not recorded and is therefore unknown.
Anthurium pedatum has very long leaf stalks, up to 60cm long, which grow close together at the base. This gives the plant a less typical appearance for this genus, but very elegant and majestic.
