Description

Anthurium marmoratum 'No. 2'

Anthurium marmoratum 'No. 2'

Surname: Anthurium marmoratum '#2, Sodiroi 1903
Synonyms: not known
etymology: marmoratum = marbled, spotted
Reproduction: Division
Origin: Colombia, Ecuador
Location: epiphytic or terrestrial, at altitudes of 500 - 1500m, in warm, humid tropical forests. The type specimen of Anthurium marmoratum was discovered by Sodiro in Ecuador along the rivers known as Río Toachi and Río Pilatón. Described in his published work as an epiphytic, climbing Anthurium sp., Anthurium marmoratum is actually a hemiepiphyte, but also grows as a terrestrial Anthurium. Hemiepiphytes can grow in the soil as well as climb a host.
Remarks: Tom Croat describes an occurrence of this species in Ecuador and indicates altitudes of 500-1500m. In his personal communication he expresses the idea that the plants found there could be Anthurium angamarcanum.
