Description

Anthurium argyrostachyum 'Yasuni'

Anthurium argyrostachyum 'Yasuni'

Surname: Anthurium argyrostachyum 'Velvety', Sodiro, 1901
Synonyms: Anthurium pandurifolium, Sodiro 1903
etymology: argyrostachyum = with silver ears
Reproduction: Division
Origin: Colombia, Peru, Ecuador
Location: along the western Andes, terrestrial, also hemieiphtic at altitudes of 250 - 1900m.
Remarks: The arrowhead-like leaves of Anthurium argyrostachyum have a velvety, ridged texture. The shape of the leaves depends heavily on the age of the plant. Young Anthurium argyrostachyum plants have lanceolate leaves, and only with increasing age and a certain plant size do the arrowhead-shaped leaves develop.
Anthurium argyrostachyum takes its name from the landscape in Ecuador where it was discovered. The leaves are pear-shaped, the sinuses only slightly parabolic. Young leaves of this clone are very light, with age the leaves become very dark, which makes the velvety surface even more prominent.
