etymology: ruizii = the species was collected by H. Ruiz L. in 1778.

Origin: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia
Location: Philodendron ruizii grows epiphytically, rarely terrestrially, on the eastern side of the Andes at altitudes between 150 and 2300 m. In Ecuador this plant is typically found above 1500 m and is most commonly found in humid mountain forests. It is very rare in dry areas.
Remarks: Philodendron ruizii is very robust, the thick leathery leaves are dark green and shiny. The short internodes and rosette-shaped growth make it a very attractive plant for beginners.
