Location: epi- or lithophytic, climbing or twining.in the moist, warm, open rainforest at altitudes of 1000-1700m.
Remarks: Philodendron rugosum differs from all other known species by its thick, broadly egg-shaped leaves, which are finely etched on the upper surface, similar to an upholstery fabric known commercially as "Naugahyde (American imitation leather)". Colloquially, the surface is also called "pigskin".
