etymology:
kareniae = Karen Ferrell-Ingram, US biologist who collected plants for the Marie Selby Botanic Garden in northern South America and Central America in the early 1990s and discovered this species.

epiphytic on wet, mossy trees in the Pacific Andes on the edges of the cloud forest at about 2000m altitude.
Remarks:
Dracula kareniae is a medium-sized representative of this genus, the upright growing inflorescence stalks produce terminal flowers measuring approximately 5 x 5 cm. These can either be presented to the viewer or hang forward.
