etymology:
hellwigianum = Dr. Franz Carl Hellwig, *1861 in Danzig, †1889 in Papua New Guinea, botanist and physician in German New Guinea, not to be confused with Franz Emil Hellwig (* 1854 in Halle (Saale); † 1929 ibid), a German merchant who researched as an ethnographer during his stay in German New Guinea (DNG).

Remarks:
Dendrobium hellwigianum is widespread in the high altitudes of PNG. The natural variety in the color of the flowers ranges from pale pink to dark red to blue-violet. The offspring offered here has a particularly intensely colored parent, Den. hellwigianum "Warren".
